Musaca De Cartofi Englezeasca (cottage Pie)

In Irlanda se numeste "Sheperd's pie", in Franta "hachis Parmentier", la noi Musaca. Singura diferenta e ca nu se pune un strat de cartofi si la baza.
In Ireland is Sheperd's pie, In France hachis Parmentier, in Romania is Musaca. The only difference is that in this recipe only one layer of mashed potatoes is used, on top.
Ingrediente pentru 5-6 persoane

  • 600 g pulpa de vita, tocata
  • o cepa mare, tocata
  • 1 morcov, tocat
  • 1 cutie de rosii in bulion, tocate marunt
  • 1 cana supa clara de vita/pui facuta in casa
  • 1 foie de dafin
  • 1 crenguta de cimbru
  • 3 linguri ulei
  • sare, piper dupa gust

Pentru piure

  • 700 g cartofi, decojiti si taiati
  • 1 lingura hrean ras mic
  • 100 g unt
  • 50 g lapte
  • sare dupa gust

Mai intai pune cartofii la fiert.
Incalzeste uleiul intr-o tigaie incapatoare. Pune ceapa si morcovul si caleste-i la foc mediu pana se inmoaie (5 min.).
Adauga carnea tocata si rumeneste-o cam53 minute.
Pune supa, rosiile, foaia de dafin si cimbrul. Fierbe incet, acoperit, 30 min. In timpul asta incalzeste cuptorul la 190 C. Cand s-au fiert cartofii, strecoara-i si pasazea-i cu unt, lapte, hrean si sare dupa gust.
Cand a trecut jumatatea de ora, sareaza si pipereaza carnea si toarn-o intr-o tava. Acoper-o cu piureul de cartofi. Da la cuptor 30 min.

 


Ingredients for 5-6 persons

  • 600 g ground beef
  • 1 big onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, chopped
  • 1 can tomatoes puree
  • 1 cup homemade broth
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1 thyme branch
  • 3 Tbs vegetable oil
  • salt, pepper to taste


For mashed potatoes

  • 700 g potatoes, peeled and cut in cubes
  • 1 Tbs grated horseradish
  • 100 g butter
  • 50 g milk
  • salt, to taste

Firstly start to boil potatoes in water with some salt.
Heat the oil in a large pan. Put the onion and carrot and cook them over medium heat until soft (approx. 5 min). Add the meat and brown it well, stirring in it, for about 5 minutes.
Add tomatoes, broth, bay leaf, thyme. Bring to boil and than simmer it, covered, for 30 minutes.
Meanwhile heat the oven at 190 C.
When potatoes are soft, mash them and add butter, milk, horseradish. Salt to taste.
Spice the meat with salt and peppper and  transfer it in a tray. On top of it spread mashed potatoes in a thick layer. Leave it in oven for 30 min.
